
Culinary Director
Summary: The Culinary Director oversees culinary operations across multiple F&B concepts in Minneapolis, MN, including a new high-end steak house, ensuring consistent execution of brand standards, quality, food safety, and banquets. This leadership role collaborates with Executive chefs, General managers, and Corporate stakeholders to drive excellence in kitchen performance, cost management, and team development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of executive chefs, sous chefs, and kitchen managers across all units.
- Evaluate and enhance culinary performance through regular site visits, audits, and coaching.
- Conduct regular quality control assessments to ensure consistency in flavor, presentation, and portion sizes.
- Address employee concerns and grievances, escalating issues when necessary.
- Delegate tasks, set expectations for performance, and ensure a cohesive and efficient working environment.
- Monitor food preparation methods, techniques, and presentation to maintain high standards.
- Standardize recipes, plating guides, and production methods to ensure consistency across locations.
- Oversee food quality, portion control, inventory management, and kitchen organization.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, food handling protocols, and sanitation standards.
- Lead seasonal menu planning, product innovation, and R&D in collaboration with marketing and operations.
- Stay current with food trends and consumer preferences to maintain brand relevance and guest satisfaction.
- Partner with vendors to source high-quality, cost-effective ingredients.
- Drive food and labor cost targets; analyze P&L performance and identify areas of opportunity.
- Establish systems for inventory control, waste reduction, and purchasing efficiency.
- Recommend and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
- Implement training programs for culinary team members at all levels to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Identify and nurture internal talent for promotion and growth within the company.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and collaborative kitchen culture.
- Work closely with Operations, HR, Marketing, and Events to support company-wide initiatives.
- Oversee the planning and execution of special events, catering services, or private functions.
- Serve as a culinary liaison during new restaurant openings, renovations, and brand expansions.
- Represent the culinary team in leadership meetings, providing insight and reporting on kitchen operations.
Must-Haves:
- Culinary Degree or equivalent culinary certification preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive culinary leadership experience, with at least 3 years in a multi-unit or corporate-level role.
- Experience in banquets is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of culinary techniques, flavors, and global cuisines.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
